This townhouse, in the heart of Saint Martin de Ré, is incredibly romantic and very practical. It has been refurbished to an extremely high specification by an English Interior Designer.
You are just minutes on foot from the quayside of Saint Martin harbour with plenty of restaurants, shopping and antique shops to explore. At the farmers market, stroll around the colourful stalls and have a drink in one of the cafés.
The house sleeps 4. There are two double bedrooms, two shower rooms, a very large salon, newly fitted kitchen, and garden room to enjoy those hot summer evenings. There is a second floor level with the best view of the sea.
Île de Ré is France’s favourite holiday island – a 30km-long flat strip of land with photogenic villages, old ports and sandy beaches – is small enough to cycle round, or to explore on horseback. Long the holiday haven of affluent Parisiens, this dreamy, golden-hued island can be found a half-hour drive from La Rochelle. Perfect if you’re looking to rediscover life’s simple pleasures.
Saint Martin de Ré is one of the most beautiful and the biggest town on the Island of Ré. Everything in Saint Martin is historic, it has retained almost all of its original walls and buildings and evidence of the numerous fierce naval battles fought here, remains.
We had a great time again île De Ré and Galathée was a wonderful place to stay. What a charming and well-appointed home. We made good use of Bikes (electric!) and revisited Ars, Loix, Flotte and Bois Plage, oh, and the Cave Coop of course !! We ate and enjoyed La Cabane, Les Embruns La Marin, and La Cible. Weather mixed but did not prevent our enjoyment. Valerie was a great help, thank you, and we can look forward to ...
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Galathée. We were lucky with the weather and were able to get out on the bikes every day. An added surprise was bumping into an old friend and colleague from London, who has a property just around the corner and a daughter of the same age as one of my sons. Our favourite beach was 73 chemin des Brardes - scarcely a soul even in August! Favourite restaurant (without a doubt) was Le tout ...
We had a lovely time at Galathée, thank you! We loved being a part of the gorgeous village of St Martin and being able to walk or cycle to get around. Yes, there were some hot days but we were lucky to avoid the heatwave which swept across central Europe last week. There is a cooling breeze on Ile de Ré for which we were grateful (especially on bikes!)
We had a wonderful time thank you and loved the house. We have been to île De Ré before so already knew that we would love it! The little courtyard was perfect for parking our bikes and hanging wetsuits and the house was in a perfect location - quiet but around the corner from the centre of St. Martin. The information you gave by email and in the welcome booklet was very useful. Especially the parking info and restaurant recommendations.I ...
We really enjoyed our stay at Galathée - the house was perfect and we voted your courtyard our favourite of all the houses we have stayed in on the island (5 so far!) Thank you again for thinking of everything to make our stay so comfortable and relaxing. I am sure we will return!
We enjoyed our first visit to île De Ré immensely and found the house very comfortable and ideal for 4 people. The facilities are of a high standard, notably the kitchen (although we did not cook much!) and the bathrooms. The courtyard is a lovely feature and the close proximity to the town centre, while still in a very calm location, is a great asset. Valerie was responsive and helpful with anything we needed.
We returned from France yesterday, having had another delightful stay at Galathée. The house is so charming , it’s position in St Martin perfect. We were able to enjoy the courtyard more this time because of the long warm evenings. As promised , plants duly tended , the plumbago and jasmine are looking fabulous as is the orange plant by the well which has just come into bloom ( don’t know what it’s called ). We found people often stopped ...
We had a wonderful holiday. Île de Ré is amazing and staying in your lovely house was perfect. We very much hope to go back to the island one day; you are so fortunate to have a second home in such a lovely place.
Have been forced back down to earth today after our wonderful, wonderful stay at Galathee. I have never considered myself an envious/covetous kind of gal, (and I will be 60 next year.....), but I am now.....all down to Galathee and the island itself. Perfect, perfect. Ten out of ten.
