Where do I start? Well firstly the pictures (which are wonderful) simply don’t give sufficient weight to what an amazing property this is. The courtyard, the flow of the house, the attention to detail…this is simply a magical holiday home. The location is also pretty awesome…if you want to be in St Martin, have some quiet but be still close to the action this place ticks all of the boxes. When we arrived we were met by Valerie who was charming and took us around the house before then suggesting bike hire shops and places to visit. The owners are a very user friendly couple who have been great too. I honestly didnt want to leave and neither did my family. If you are on the Ile de Re you should stay here. We’ve been holidaying on Ile de Ré since 2003, this summer we treated ourselves to a week in Galathée. Arriving at Galathée at 5pm on a Saturday late August after an early 4.45 am wake up we were excited but tired. The bottle of Rosé in the fridge took the edge off and was a great welcoming touch. Valerie met us and showed us round the delightful space that is Galathée. The house is perfectly situated just a short stroll from the Market and little supermarket but also the restaurants on the port. The facilities are excellent, best Bathrooms/Shower facilities we’ve experienced in France! We had a memorable week and are already planning our return, You will be pleasantly surprised in Galathée. We had a lovely time in St Martin, made even better by the accommodation. Both my wife and daughter were smitten by the house (and I thought it was pretty good!!)… you’ve created a little gem. And you just can’t beat the location. We loved the decor, the fact it was all so clean and everything ‘just worked’ – it made our stay comfortable and relaxing and allowed us to get the best out of St Martin in particular and Ile de Re generally. We’ve stayed in a few holiday villas and houses over the years and I have to say Galathée is up there with the very very best… the website and pictures don’t really do it justice. Also, having Valerie there to meet us on arrival, and to see us off at the end, was really helpful – again that is something that doesn’t usually happen when you go to a holiday villa abroad and is a nice touch… so double points for that! This is a beautiful house. The owner is a delight to correspond with. Nothing appears too much trouble. The house is amazingly even better than the pictures. I have only positive things to say. The location in St Martin is perfect. Close to everything, but quiet as well. The rooms are all a good size. The weather was beautiful when we were there, so we spent most of the time in the beautiful outdoor area. The kitchen has everything you need to eat in, and with the market and fresh produce close by, you will want to eat in some of the time. The house has some beautiful decorative items, and my only caveat may be that this might be nerve wracking if you are there with toddlers, as there are breakables there. We had a splendid time at Galathée. The house is beautiful and perfectly situated. We loved the antique furnishings and yet perfect modern comforts and conveniences. We came here for a short honeymoon towards the end of May and were warmly greeted by the housekeeper who showed us around and made us feel very welcome. What a fabulously romantic place to stay in the heart of St. Martin. I loved every minute of it! Galathée is absolutely beautiful, very French, romantic but with all the mod cons. Galathée, nestled in the 18th century village of St Martin, is quite simply the most charming holiday destination. The owners have refurbished the house with superb detail and taste and with the empathy its history and wonderful surroundings command. The harbour is a pleasant stroll away, fluid with cafes and restaurants where one can very easily over indulge before returning to the delightful inner courtyard to snooze the afternoon away.
